LCS Foundation Names 2023 Ed and Sue Kenny Scholarship Recipients

Dec 5, 2023
The LCS Foundation has awarded the 2023 Ed and Sue Kenny scholarships to two students pursuing careers in senior lifestyle services: Lily Kiffmeyer, a Healthcare Administration student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and University of Iowa Master of Healthcare Administration candidate, Haley Sharp.

“Investing in the next generation of senior living leaders is at the heart of the LCS Foundation’s purpose,” said Ed Kenny, LCS Foundation founder. “It is an honor to see the Ed and Sue Kenny Scholarship fulfill that purpose, support students, and support senior living management as a mainstream, well-respected career choice. The number of talented applicants we received this year is evident that the future of the industry is bright.”

About the 2023 Ed and Sue Kenny Scholarship Recipients:

  • Lily Kiffmeyer. Kiffmeyer is currently pursuing a degree in Health Care Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She spent this past summer as a senior living management intern at Trillium Woods, a Life Care Services owned and managed community in Plymouth, Minn., and is an active member of the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) Eau Claire Student Chapter. Upon graduation, she hopes to become an administrator in a senior living community with a full continuum of care, and one day advance to an executive director role or open a senior-focused personal training company.

“This scholarship supports all of the work I have done to create a solid foundation in aging services. My experiences through schoolwork and student organizations at UW-Eau Claire has been crucial in my professional development. I would like to give thanks to Doug Olson, my professors at UW-Eau Claire, and my mentors and network in aging services who continue to support my passion for aging services.”

  • Haley Sharp. Sharp is a graduate student at the University of Iowa pursuing a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. She has been involved in the Iowa Student Association of Healthcare Leaders, an organization dedicated to cultivating and empowering the next generation of healthcare administrators, and serves as a Graduate Research Assistant, supporting the Director of Support Services within the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) health system. Sharp spent this past summer as an intern in the Risk Management department at the LCS Des Moines home office.

“This scholarship will help me continue a high level of education so that I am better prepared to be a passionate leader who can impact the lives of many. I want to thank the LCS Foundation for investing in my future and providing tremendous support.”

The Ed & Sue Kenny Scholarship was founded in 2019 to promote the education and professional development of undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree at any college or university in the field of senior lifestyle services. The scholarship program is open each year to qualifying students across the country. The next application process will begin in July 2024.
