LCS Foundation Scholarship Awarded to University of Northern Iowa Student

The University of Northern (UNI) Iowa has announced Katelyn Braga as the recipient of the 2025 LCS Foundation University Scholarship. Braga is a senior pursuing a double major in social work and gerontology with a minor in family studies. She was selected to receive the scholarship by the UNI School of Applied Human Services scholarship committee.
“Thank you to the LCS Foundation for this opportunity,” Braga said. “I appreciate the work the Foundation is doing for older adults, the people who work with them, and students interested in this field. I appreciate the educational opportunities this scholarship funds for me and others.”
A personal connection to senior care sparked Katelyn’s interest in the field. Her relationship with a grandparent living with Alzheimer’s disease, along with her work in a memory care unit in a nursing home, gave her firsthand experience of the challenges seniors can face and the importance of compassionate support. “I am passionate about working in senior living,” she said. “I want to be a positive part of people’s journeys.”
Braga expressed appreciation for all the support she has received during her college experience. “I would like to thank my family and professors at UNI,” she said. “I would also like to thank the people who made this scholarship possible.”
After graduation, Braga hopes to pursue social work, assisting older adults and serving as a supportive guide for them and their families as they navigate the system or face challenging times.
The LCS Foundation has established a strong partnership with UNI to support the continued education of students pursuing degrees in the senior living industry. Through the program, university scholarships are awarded annually. Other schools where scholarships are in place include Northwood University, the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living at Washington State University.
