Neuroscientists Identify Mechanism for Long Term Memory Storage

Apr 28, 2022
While studying how memories are formed and stored in the brain, a team at the University of Iowa identified a novel protein folding mechanism that is essential for long-term memory storage.

Since the establishment of the LCS Foundation five years ago, we have focused on one of our primary missions: investing in work that will lead toward Alzheimer’s first survivor. This focus is why news coming out of the University of Iowa’s neuroscience research labs is stirring up enthusiasm.

The university's neuroscience research team discovered a biochemical folding mechanism present in mice with neurogenerative diseases that when reactivated, showed the mice regaining their long-term memory.

A full report of the team’s findings was published in the March 23 issue of the journal Science Advances.
